⚔ THE CLANS
⚔ PLAYER GUIDE — THE MINES
v0.97b2 · The Clans Player Reference Manual
[4.1]

Overview

The mines are where you spend most of your time. You descend into the mines to fight monsters for experience and gold, challenge other player clans, and go on quests.

Each visit to the mines costs one fight from your daily allotment. Choose your mine level carefully -- deeper levels have tougher monsters but better rewards.

The mine menu commands are:

KeyAction
LFight monsters at your current mine level.
FFight another player's clan.
CChange your mine level.
GGo on a quest (once per day).
WWho's here -- view the scores of other clans.
VView your clan's stats.
/Chat with other villagers in the mines.
QReturn to the main menu.

Mine Levels

You can set your mine level from 0 to 20. Higher levels contain stronger monsters that give more experience and gold. If your clan is struggling, drop to a lower level. If fights are too easy, move deeper.

Your mine level is saved between sessions. When you first create a clan, you start at level 0.

Fighting Monsters

Press L in the mines to fight a group of monsters. The monsters you encounter are randomly selected based on your mine level and your clan members' levels. Deeper mine levels and higher character levels produce harder opponents.

Defeating monsters earns experience for your members (see section 5.7), gold for your vault, and sometimes followers for your empire. The number of followers gained increases at higher mine levels. A portion of your new followers may be conscripted into your army based on the village's conscription rate.

Fighting Other Clans

Press F in the mines to challenge another player's clan. You will be shown a list of clans currently in the village. Clan fights use your clan fight allotment (separate from mine fights).

The combat system is the same as monster fights (see chapter 5), but the stakes are higher -- winning earns more points and losing costs more (see section 18.1).

Quests

Press G in the mines to go on a quest. You may go on one quest per day. Quests are scripted adventures that may involve choices, NPC conversations, special fights, and rewards. The available quests depend on what quest packs the sysop has installed.
